How to Keep Your Bathroom Clean Without Even Realizing It

One of the most important rooms in your condo to keep clean in order to have a healthy space is the bathroom (mould? no thank you!). And since most small condo units only have one or two bathrooms, this really shouldn't take up much time each week. (Plus, many modern condo fixtures feature smooth lines, meaning there's no need to obsess over tiny nooks and crannies.)

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Mr Clean Magic Eraser (or a cheaper alternative from Amazon – search 'melamine sponge').

  • Toilet brush

  • Toilet cleaner like Lysol liquid, Comet powder, etc. (My personal fav is the black liquid Lysol to help clear limescale)

  • Windex

  • Paper towel or a reusable cotton cloth

SCHEDULE

Do these the first time you use the bathroom in the morning. If you do it while you're already in the bathroom, it won't feel so much like you're spending needless time cleaning the bathroom.

  • Every Monday, take your magic eraser and wipe the sink clean.

The porcelain bowl, the edges, the handles and faucet, and the metal drain. Seeing a nice shiny metal drain is the best feeling, isn't it?

  • Every Tuesday, clean the counter tops.

Depending on the colour of the counter top, you might be able to get away with using the magic eraser, or you might have to use your Windex and paper towel.

  • Every Wednesday, Windex the mirror.

If your shower has a glass wall, you can clean that now too.

  • Every Thursday, clean the inside of toilet bowl.

If you're using liquid, make sure you squirt it up under the rim. I find letting it sit for about 10 minutes helps. Or, if you're like me, you can leave it sit until you have to use the bathroom again because you forgot to come back to it. (I'm sure this approach is not plumber-approved.)

  • Every Friday, wipe the outside of your toilet.

You can use a magic eraser or some Windex. I used to use Clorox or Lysol wipes, but I find they push dust around instead of absorbing it, so I'm not a big fan anymore.

  • Every Saturday, scrub your tub and shower.

This will take the most time, which is why we wait until the weekend. Scrub all the tiles, along with the porcelain tub, the drain, the faucet, the handles, and don't forget the shower head! Check on the shower curtain and see if it needs cleaning. (Often it won't, but if it does, you should deal with it before it becomes too gross.)

Don't forget to sweep your bathroom floor and dust your baseboards when you do the rest of your condo's floors and baseboards!

Hopefully this helped make cleaning your condo bathroom just a little less stressful. 🙂 🫧
